The NABAIntroduction to Fashion Design summer course gives aspiring fashion designers, or just people who love fashion (with no age limit), the chance to experience an enjoyable two weeks creating a mini-collection from the first ideas to the final presentation and all that that involves.
An intense two weeks starting with research on a fashionable theme, then putting down ideas, playing with images, and developing them, making mood boards, creating a fun fashion item and producing a portfolio of finished designs that students can then take with them if they then wish to apply for further studies on diploma courses.
Each student is encouraged, and shown how to, express their ideas to the maximum. Meanwhile, talks will be given on the fashion system as well as cultural background and input lectures on the chosen theme.
There will also be explorations of Milan‘s glamorous fashion, and ‘alternative’ fashion, zones and important design stores; as Milan offers the best design and fashion outlets in the world.
“Introduction In Fashion Design” is part of NABA Summer Programs, which have reached their 7th edition this year.
NABA faculty have worked hard improving past programs and developing new ones to make the Summer Educational offer as interesting and varied as possible.
Milan will provide a stimulating and enticing environment: Milan is the city of architects, designers, fashion stylists, entrepreneurs, graphic designers, creative minds and publishers.
In addition to the more traditional courses in Fashion Design, Fashion Styling, Graphic Design, Interior and Product Design, NABA has developed brand new courses in extremely topical fields such as Fashion Marketing, Fashion Photography and Journalism, and Cinema Studies.
This can be the first step towards developing creative potential (Introduction Level courses) or improving and enhancing existing skills (Studio Level courses).
Introduction to Fashion Design will take place from July 5th to 16th 2010 in the city of Milan.
Further information about NABA Summer Session are available on the website www.design-summer-courses.com or at summer@naba.it.

Stripe Chrysanthemum Kosode

Kosode (Garment with small wrist openings)
Stripe with chrysanthemum crest design on purple tussah silk crepe
Edo period, 19th century
"Tussah silk, harvested from wild silkworms, is harder to dye than ordinary silk. This crepe silk garment with sophisticated stripes was woven with alternating vertical threads consisting of tussah and ordinary silk threads placed dyed. Ornamental chrysanthemum emblems are embroidered at five places instead of family crests."
From museum plaque:
Edo Period Fashion and Design
"Women of the Edo period (AD 1603-1868) were very fashionable. Colors, design and style of their kosode (narrow wrist opening type) kimonos changed with the trends of the time. Keicho kosode, dyed in chic colors like red, black and white with delicate embroidery and gold leaf imprint designs were popular in the Keicho era (1596-1615). Dunamically composed motifs with effective use of blank space dominated Kanbun (1661-1673) kosode; Henroku (1688-1704) kosode was characterized by a renaissance style with aristocratic flair featuring motifs taken from literature, but with little blank space. During the Genroku era, motifs created by the folding fan decorator MIYAZAKI Yuzensai became extremely popular amongst commoners and with it the technique of yukzen dye, which made pictorial designs possible.
In the mid- to late Edo period, the trend gradually shifted. Fashion was created and dominated by kabuki actors and courtesans. Komon (small patterns), stripes, and checks, originally favored by samurais, became popular amongst women. According to the newly born Edo chic of "iki," decorations were preferably hidden in the hems and linings, not worn too obviously. Subtle and elegant colors such as gray and brown set the trend. This Edo aesthetic continued into the modern period, and is still alive in contemporary kimono design"

Fashion is more or less synonymous with females. Most women have this undying craving of dressing up according to the on going fashion trends, no matter whether it suits them well or not. Fashion trends which change almost every fortnight, are endearingly followed by the female segment of our society. However, a million dollar question remains unanswered that, where does these “Fashion Trends” exactly start from? Since most ladies pick up the trends by watching their friends and peers, the exact source of the fashion trends gets lost somewhere down the line.
The fashion trends actually start from the runways of London, Paris and New York. It is the ramp of these renowned fashion events that headstarts the so called “Latest Fashion Trend” fever throughout the world. Designers persistently keep renovating the fashion styles and come up with varied designs every now and then and so does the trends in fashion markets too.
Since most of the people are unable to buy the exuberantly expensive brands showcased on the ramps, people tend to pick the reasonably priced imitations of the same. Most departmental stores copy the runway dress designs which are later sold like hot cakes in the market.
Its not just the runway shows which influence the public in general, but the celebrities too, who are considered as the style icons by youth. Youngsters imitate their favorite stars and try to dress like them in order to prove themselves fashionable enough among their friend circle. On one hand where the younger lot follow the dressing sense of celebrities like Miley Cyrus and Jamie Lynn Spears, the older lot on the other, dress as per the various popular television shows like Desperate Housewives.
There is nothing wrong in following the latest trends or styles but the trick is to copy the trends sensibly. The most important thing to remember while dressing is to maintain your own individuality within the fashionable drapes. One is not suppose to look like a carbon cut out of a runway model but the thing is to express the same style through your own self and as they say when you’ll be comfortable within your own skin you would indeed be making the biggest fashion statement around.
Long hair

This was taken on the west side of Broadway on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, between 81st and 80th Street — pretty much in front of Zabar’s. I had been walking along behind this woman for a block or two, wondering if she would turn around so I could take a picture of her face. But then it dawned on me — duh! — that no matter how beautiful she might be, her face couldn’t possibly be as interesting as her braided hair, which reached almost to her ankles…
This was published in an Apr 7, 2009 blog entitled "9 Ways To Save Money Instantly Without Doing Anything." It was also published as an illustration in a July 2009 BellaSugar blog article titled "Extreme Beauty: 16 Supersized Hairstyles." And it was published on a Wikimedia page titled File: Long braid. More recently, it was published in an Aug 26, 2009 blog titled "Beauty Pet Peeves." And it was published as an illustration in a Sep 2009 Squidoo blog titled "The Way Of The Hair: A Visual History of Hairstyles."
Note: on Aug 7, 2009 I uploaded a slightly edited version of this photo; I used Apple’s "Aperture" program to eliminate hot spots and cold spots, and also decreased the shadows on the woman’s back and jeans, to better highlight her long braided hair. Most people probably won’t notice the difference — but since this is (as of Aug 2009) the third most-often viewed image in my Flickr collection, I felt I should make it as good as possible…
Moving into 2010, the photo was published as an illustration in an undated (Jan 2010) blog titled "Seventieth Street Playground in New York County, NY." It was also published, without any particular commentary on a Newbury Images web page. And it was published in a Feb 3, 2010 Peruvian blog titled "¡Harta de tener el cabello corto!" **********************
This is part of an evolving photo-project, which will probably continue throughout the summer of 2008, and perhaps beyond: a random collection of "interesting" people in a broad stretch of the Upper West Side of Manhattan — between 72nd Street and 104th Street, especially along Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue.
I don’t like to intrude on people’s privacy, so I normally use a telephoto lens in order to photograph them while they’re still 50-100 feet away from me; but that means I have to continue focusing my attention on the people and activities half a block away, rather than on what’s right in front of me.
I’ve also learned that, in many cases, the opportunities for an interesting picture are very fleeting — literally a matter of a couple of seconds, before the person(s) in question move on, turn away, or stop doing whatever was interesting. So I’ve learned to keep the camera switched on (which contradicts my traditional urge to conserve battery power), and not worry so much about zooming in for a perfectly-framed picture … after all, once the digital image is uploaded to my computer, it’s pretty trivial to crop out the parts unrelated to the main subject.
For the most part, I’ve deliberately avoided photographing bums, drunks, drunks, and crazy people. There are a few of them around, and they would certainly create some dramatic pictures; but they generally don’t want to be photographed, and I don’t want to feel like I’m taking advantage of them. I’m still looking for opportunities to take some "sympathetic" pictures of such people, which might inspire others to reach out and help them. We’ll see how it goes …
The only other thing I’ve noticed, thus far, is that while there are lots of interesting people to photograph, there are far, far, far more people who are not so interesting. They’re probably fine people, and they might even be more interesting than the ones I’ve photographed … but there was just nothing memorable about them.
Sedu hairstyling is the healthiest hairstyle for your hair and is extremely popular among many celebrities. Many of these celebrities have made this kind of styling the latest must have look, the one to be seen wearing.
This type of styling looks good on everyone, plus there are many styles to choose from. Whether you have long, medium or short hair, sedu styling will work for you. At one time these styles were only available in the salon but the release of the sedu hair straightener to the general public has made this look affordable. And now with all the sedu celebrity hairstyles to look at for inspiration, you will almost definitely find a hairstyle you like.
Sedu hair styles are created using a sedu hair straightener, which is patented and uniquely designed using ceramic plates that are made of special tourmaline crystals. They create heat that is evenly distributed throughout the iron, producing styles that are almost impossible to achieve as with other hair straighteners on the market. These crystals combine with a negative ionic charge in order to remove all the static from within the hair.
This hairstyling tool prevents the continued usage of strong chemicals which might (In some cases) damage the hair. The end result is an extremely soft, silky, super straight sedu hairstyle that will not only last longer but will look and feel much better than most others. It is no surprise why this is fast becoming the hair straightener of choice for top stylists and professionals alike.
Sedu Hairstyling Important Notes
Dry your hair completely before using your sedu iron to prevent any damage and lack of effectiveness.
Ensure your hair is clean prior to use.
Use the heat control wisely as over heating can damage your hair.
Partition the hair into manageable sections to ensure fully balanced heat coverage of the iron.
I was talking to a few ladys and they all said the same thing. (That there is not many styles for natural/nappy hair..) So i want to show you it lots of different styles for natural hair.

The model who describes fashion as being in the most ‘comfortable state’ also believes that fashion is not about going over the top. Preeti Dhata is one lass who maintains a style statement that is edgy but yet colourful. Like any other bubbly girl, she also loves to go for movies, read books and indulges in gossip every now and then! Arguably the next big thing in the world of modelling, she gets candid in conversation with Stylekandy.com. Your early days. It all started with a metro ride, I was travelling by the metro and met a photographer who told me that I could make a career in modelling. I took it as a joke but I think that incident triggered it all. Best thing about being a model? Without any doubts, it has to be the travelling! It’s a lot of fun hanging out with other models in a different city. In addition to that, we are in a field of fashion which is ever changing so I never bored.
Your style statement….Edgy yet colourful, I like short sweet dresses. But at the same time I have a good collection of various kinds of pants that I like to team up with funky shirts and gladiators or heels in footwear. I like things that are not too bizarre, but they should not be too boring also… Your fitness regime…Like many models, I’m not that blessed with a perfect figure, so I do have to maintain a lot. In order to stay in shape, I always try to follow a good and nutritious diet, and hit the gym 2-3 times a week.
Your beauty secret…I think using good skin products that suits your skin type and a good diet is every model´s beauty secret and mine is no different. What appeals to you more – walking the ramp or posing for print ads? They both are very different from each other but I like print, it gains more points because these days the shoots are not simple, they are very creative, thematic and challenging.
Do you agree that models are used as a hanger? This holds true only if models choose to be used as hangers. In my case, I don’t think I am used as a mere hanger. Do you think that the Indian modelling industry has grown from past few years? The credit goes to whom? Fashion fraternity has really worked hard in bringing the industry to the position where it is now. Our designers have shown in Paris Fashion Week recently and have brought Indian fashion to international limelight. I think they are the major contributors to the immense growth that our industry has witnessed. Carrying the right look or the right attitude – Choose. I will go for both. It’s like you cannot survive, if you lack either of them. It is most important to have an attitude that sets you apart from any other good looking face. Your favourite designer…Internationally, I love Karl Lager feld, Marc Jacobs… there are too many. Among the Indian designers I like Gaurav Gupta, Rohit Bal, Tarun Tahiliani, Savio Jon…it’s so hard to name just one. Your take on foreign models getting preferences in the Indian fashion weeks? Ah…I would say it totally depends on the look of the season. If designers feel that foreign models will fit into their theme, then it’s totally their decision. Yeah…but I would like it if we get to see more Indian faces on ramp.
How do you cope with all the pressure and competition? I just do my work, focus on it rather than thinking about the competition. Tell us something, which most people don’t know about? I have a secret crush on Milind Soman! (well, don’t all girls do?) What next for you after modeling? Don’t know yet, still have not thought about it. But I’m sure that it will not be something boring for me.

“Paris the Heiress” is famous for her too many scandals as well as for the controversial Paris Hilton Sedu hairstyles. It seems that Paris Hilton had everything – Sedu short hair styles and long ones. We are proud to declare that Paris Hilton may join the Sedu celebrity hair styles club.
Before we learn more about the Paris Hilton sedu hairstyles we are obliged to give you a short description of Miss Hilton. She was born on 1981 as the proud and rich grad daughter of Conrad Hilton the founder of the Hilton hotels.
Paris Hilton likes celebrities – You may ask Leonardo DiCaprio and Edward Furlong or watch her famous sex tape. Some say she is a trouble maker and recently Sir Elton john banned her from future Oscar parties. You can guess why.
Following is a description of some of the famous Paris Hilton Sedu Hairstyles:
1. New style bob cut – In my opinion, this his the best Sedu short hair style Paris Hilton goes with. The length of her hair is just above the shoulder and the combination of her beautiful face and this round haircut is almost perfect.
2. A wax funky style haircut – This Paris Hilton Sedu hairstyle is unique. It is a typical Sedu celebrity hair style but not typical at all for Paris Hilton. The hair is pinned tightly back and high giving her a princess look.
3. Long blond hair. Probably the most common Paris Hilton Sedu hairstyle is long hair extensions hairstyle.
4. Half up half down Sedu celebrity hairstyle – This is a relatively easy to make hairstyle and one of the pretty ones. This Paris Hilton hairstyle looks much more natural than the other ones.
By the way, according to the latest rumors from Paris Hilton hair stylists and hair dressers, her hair is in a bad condition because of the constant makeovers and changes it is going through.

just a quick scetch, i was bored.
There is a silence in the indian fashion industry as it recovers from the effects of the economic recession. According to Patrice de Place, president of the artistic and education committee, Mod’Art International, a Paris-based design school, the fashion society in India should take this is as an opportunity to reflect on past trends and to chalk out a future direction for fashion education.
Elaborating additional on opportunities and challenges, Indian fashion designers must to develop a signature international uniqueness while retaining their Indianness and fashion design institutes must to facilitate this awareness. Often repeated and cliched as it could sound there is an attractive formula to achieve this. To begin with Indian fashion designers need to capitalise on traditional Indian costumes that have an sparkling appeal in the international fashion stage. The saree, for example, is one such garment. Upcoming fashion designers can be trained to come up with creative ways in which the saree can be draped. More and more contemporary embellishments and designs should also be explored.
In other words, the challenge essentially for forthcoming Indian fashion designers is to identify established designs and find ways to make them worldwide appealing. Incidentally, this was the formula employed by Rei Kawakubo, a Japanese fashion designer, who catapulted Japanese clothing in the worldwide fashion stage. Her creations — Comme des Garcons — were iconic as they spoke about a idea that was embedded in her soil and time.
Indian fashion designers need to come up with creations that have a strong commercial quotient internationally. Creations, at one level, should accrue to the practical sensibilities of a worldwide audience. It is simply then that Indian fashion can have a prepared and widespread global market. This is also one important area of research and exploration that fashion design institutes can get on upon.
Place holds a Master in Common Law and Political Sciences, but he has always been associated with the luxury and fashion world. Is there a disconnect? “Fashion goes away from style and panache. It has an inextricable (though at times subtle) link with society and is influenced by political and economic guidelines. My academic education coupled with this belief has made the journey enjoyable and fulfilling.

It’s subjective and personal, even critics debate, but still opinions are open for interpretation. Is it Paul Smith, Vivienne Westwood, Jean Muir? How does one make the determination? What makes a great fashion designer? I leave the decision to you.
Smith
Born in 1947, in Nottingham, England, Fashion Designer Paul Smith always wanted to become a professional bicycle racer. But an accident prevented him from pursuing this career further. In 1969, Smith met Pauline Denyer, who studied fashion design at the Royal College of Art. She became a motor for the career in the fashion business that should follow for Smith. He opened up a tiny shop for clothing in 1970. Since then he worked hard to establish himself as a unique fashion designer for classic men’s wear with a twisted appeal.
In 1993, Smith took over the traditional (established in 1885) but bankrupt work-wear company R.Newbold and quickly incorporated many of their famous cuts into his collection. With brief modification, he sells now the “4239 shirt” (42 inches on the back, 39 in the front) of R.Newbold under his name. This shirt was originally designed for agricultural laborers in Lincolnshire.
In 1995, the London-based Design Museum opened a retrospective of Smith’s 25 years of work in the fashion business called True Brit, marking the first time this renowned museum devoted an entire exhibition to a single fashion designer.
Westwood
Dame Vivienne Westwood’s popularity constantly gains momentum. Her punk attitude is more alive in the Noughties than ever and her outspoken, Union Jack waving Englishness (with a few added safety pins and tea stains), is undiminished. It is fitting that the Establishment has recognised her work by making her a Dame.
Vivienne Westwood - fashion’s older stateswoman that many wish to emulate, with her younger husband Andreas Kronthaler and energy for shaking things up whilst keeping her feet on the ground – seems to only recruit admirers. Cutting edge but classic, she is unflinchingly rooted in what matters, whether it is human rights or classical fiction. No trendy noise for her, just cleavage, mischief, and CAPITAL LETTER MESSAGES such as 2005′s “I AM NOT A TERRORIST, please don’t arrest me” baby T-shirts.
McQueen
In less than 10 years McQueen became one of the most respected fashion designers in the world. In October 1996 he was appointed Chief Designer at the French Haute Couture House Givenchy where he worked until March of 2001.
In December 2000, 51% of Alexander McQueen was acquired by the Gucci Group, where he remained Creative Director. Collections include women’s ready-to-wear, men’s ready-to-wear, accessories, eyewear and fragrance (Kingdom 2003 and MyQueen 2005). Expansion followed and included the opening of flagship stores in New York, London, Milan, Las Vegas and Los Angeles.
The following awards have recognized Alexander McQueens achievement in fashion: British Designer of the year 1996, 1997, 2001, and 2003, International Designer of the Year by The Council of Fashion Designer’s of America (CFDA) in 2003, A Most Excellent Commander of The British Empire (CBE) by her Majesty the Queen in 2003, GQ Menswear Designer of the Year in 2007.
