I went down to pay Jeremiah a visit, and decided to shoot some photos of my own, and interview Jeremiah for one the publications I write for. I thought a ‘behind the scenes’ of a fashion shoot piece would be interesting to work on, and it turned out that way. I had a blast doing both. Some of mt photos came out great, but I was cheating. While I’ve been aware of AllTop for a few years, I don’t actually
spend much time there. Guy
Kawasaki brought this to my attention. I must say I am impressed.
I think I hadn’t gotten into it because I started at the top, where
the focus is on the top hits of the big name news media, and the main
topics of Work, Health, Culture, Interests, Tech, People, Good, News,
Geos, and Sports. Uh, right. Not that it isn’t an interesting
collection of categories or that there isn’t interesting stuff there,
but it is the same interesting stuff everyone else already knows
about, and that is not the point of what I am up to. So for me to find
AllTop truly useful I had to find it applied to a relatively small
scale topic of interest to me that actually had enough content for
AllTop’s technologies and strategies to be effective with it.
My understanding of how AllTop works is that they have all kinds of
nifty computer programs spidering all across the Web gathering feeds
and streams, collecting, collating, clustering, yada yada, and then
another set on the other end taking all this collected clustered data
and putting it in nice tidy attractive packages for people to browse.

I’ve also been looking at old family slides lately. While I cannot compete with the ultimate coolness of Joey’s family, this one did make me smile.
Yes friends, that crazy cat with the pipe and the checked suit is my dad.
He labelled this slide, "Me at Murray Bay ’40. " That would make him 25 here. Obviously he’s still a bachelor. I have no idea what is up with that shirt under the jacket–apparently some fashion trend which swept eastern Canada but is forgotten now. It’s just over the top enough that it also may have been an early glimpse of his later bipolar illness….

I walked on, my frustration doubled, trying to work out whether my friend’s remark was a coded encouragement, all the more welcome for being so unexpected, to indulge my passion for once. As lightheartedly as I could manage I repeated her words. "Yes, it would have made a great photograph."
No response.
We walked on further, as the rain became increasingly heavy. We stopped beneath the awning of a souvenir store and looked absentmindedly at postcards. The missed opportunity continued to eat away at me.
Eventually, I could contain myself no more. I turned to my friend. "I have to go and get a picture of her. Wait for me here," I blurted, turning to run before she could reply.
