We place quite a bit of importance on our shoes these days. At one time in the long ago past, shoes were meant to protect our feet. Today, they are made to make a statement! Our shoes are a big part of our wardrobe. They can make or break an outfit, and womens designer shoes are all the rage. Womens designer shoes, however, are quite expensive! Are they worth it?
For most women, the answer to that question comes in three forms – yes, no, or sometimes. Now, keeping in mind that these designer shoes can cost hundreds, and sometimes thousands of dollars, the way a woman answers that question says quite a bit about her. If she says yes, that designer shoes are worth every penny, then this means that style and fashion are high on her list of priorities.
If she says sometimes, it means that in most cases, they are not worth it, but for special occasions she is willing to pay the price. It doesnt necessarily mean that she believes they are worth those outrageous prices it just means that she is sometimes willing to pay it. If she says no, this simply means that she is price conscientious and she believes that she should get value and durability for her money. The majority of women, believe it or not, fall into that last category, and they dont believe that designer shoes are worth the price tags that accompany them.
Designer shoes are indeed beautiful in most cases. There is also quite a bit of prestige in wearing shoes that were designed by famous design houses when a woman is wearing designer shoes, other women and often men sit up and take notice. However, that is pretty much where the value of a designer shoe ends.
Looking from a durability standpoint, designer shoes are not sturdy in their construction. Can you imagine paying five hundred or more dollars for a pair of shoes, only to have the ankle strap break the first time you wear them? Can you see yourself walking along a wet sidewalk after a light rain, in 00 shoes that have the sole disintegrating as you walk? Most women simply are not willing to pay that kind of money for one pair of shoes no matter whose name is stamped on them!
What about protection. Remember, shoes were originally designed to protect our feet. Todays designer shoes do nothing to protect the feet. It seems that the less shoe there is, the higher the price is and among the fashion conscientious crowd, the more the shoe is in demand. Have you seen some of the designer shoes lately? Have you wondered how they stay on the foot?!? There is little or no protection, and in fact, the way some of those designer shoes are designed, there is not only no protection, there is also danger involved when wearing them!
Are designer shoes comfortable? Comfort has never played a role in fashion. No, in most cases, they are extremely uncomfortable. What about support? There is no support in most designer shoes unless they are designer sneakers. Many models literally ruin their feet over the course of time modeling designer shoes!
But because each woman has her own unique style, and her own priorities, designer shoes are well worth the money to a select few these are the women who can not only afford to pay the prices, but are also very interested in wearing the latest fashions designed by the most famous designers.
What many people dont realize though is that these women are not in the majority of women these women are actually few and far between. Most women would not dream of paying more than 0 for a good pair of shoes others wouldnt dream of paying more than , and some even refuse to pay more than ! Where do you stand on womens design

This review is from the viewpoint of a home sewer and crafter who adores vintage clothing, not a fashion historian, designer or illustrator. Never having purchased any of the Pictorial Archives series before, I was surprised and initially disappointed by the black and white illustrations and the complete lack of text. While it is fascinating to see how fashion accessories evolved over the decades there is no indication of whether an item was casual and day wear, or dressier for afternoon or evening. An index naming the style of each piece and/or notes explaining popular colors of the day would be helpful. The black and white illustrations do render the detail of the accessories beautifully. With over 2,000 copyright free illustrations of wide variety of styles for men, women and children included I look forward to years of inspiration for fashion embellishment.

What about descriptions?,

This book has lovely pictures, although the author admits she has taken the liberty to decide which should be included for each year. It would be an even better book if the articles were named, better yet a small description, sometimes I wondered if a shoe were a man or woman's. I think the book is good but stops short of being great but it is interesting and I would like to a sequel with the other drawings that were left out of this edition.

For descriptions or details, Dover has a wide selection of books that will be of immense help with materials, construction, and history. For those who already have a working knowledge of the century in fashion, this book is a candy store of visual tidbits.Just a note: very few fashion illustrations of the nineteenth century were colored; hand-coloring was a labor-intensive process reserved for high-end publications with limited runs. Firstly, we will consider the more formal styles of footwear, beginning with the brogue.
Brogues
Brogues are extremely popular shoes, you probably own a pair yourself, but perhaps don’t realise. In basic terms, a brogue is a shoe that is made of leather with the uppers stopping at, or just below, the ankle.
Americans refer to brogues as oxfords.
Brogues come in a variety of styles; some have pointed toes, others rounded toes; some have laces, others just slip on.
When you are buying brogues as formal footwear always purchase them in leather. In general, brogues should be black, other colours are available, but black makes by far the most stylish colour.
Wear brogues with suits and formal trousers. Although they also look extremely attractive with a pair of straight cut jeans and crisp white shirt.
Loafers
Loafers are quite formal, yet at the same time have relaxed connotations too. They are perfect for wearing at informal business networking events, such as a trip to the golf course with the boss.
There are several varieties of loafer, including moccasins, and tassel loafers.
Loafers are all right for wearing with a suit, but not if the occasion is strictly formal. They go best with a nice pair of corduroy or denim jeans.
Sandals
Some men avoid wearing sandals because they believe they are particularly feminine. This isn’t true though, and many shoes, such as flip-flops, or sports sandals, look great on men.
When wearing sandals you should generally stick to wearing shorts, the only exception to this rule is with the sport sandal, which goes well with jeans and chinos too.
Espadrilles
Espadrilles are much underrated. If you don’t know what they are, they look a little bit like a cross between a sandal and a loafer, with a rope-weave sole and a canvas, or cotton, upper. They are generally a summer shoe, but when worn with straight-cut, or boot-cut, jeans, you can wear them in winter, because you can add socks.
Never ever, ever, add socks to sandals or espadrilles if your ankles are on show, it is not a good look.
Boots
Boots are the staple diet of any man’s footwear collection. As a man, you should own at least one pair of boots. The standard style for men is the ankle boot. They come in a variety of styles, some with zips, and others with laces.
Boots cross the boundary between informal and formal occasions; they are perfect for wearing to a restaurant, or on a first date.
There is no doubt that you have selected a perfect bridal gown for the big day but have you thought about your bridal shoes? In case you have not really given it any serious thought, it is a good time to think about it now. You must have shoes which not only should complement your wedding dress but it should also fit you well. You have to keep in mind that unlike purchasing any other shoes, when you buy wedding shoes you have to pay special attention to it.
There are some of us who fail to see the significance on how well the shoe matches with the wedding dress, but you have to keep in mind that they both have an important role and complement each other. The important thing is that you must try on the wedding shoes you have selected with the wedding gown. There are some wedding dresses which have a long train and it can get a little tough to walk in them. I am sure none of us want to trip on the wedding day and you must have proper control when you wear the shoes with your wedding dress. It is a good idea to give yourself a practice with the chosen shoes. Make sure that you have no trouble climbing stairs, walking or dancing in the wedding shoes.
If you are wondering about heels, it is a fact that high heel shoes add a certain amount of style and elegance, but if you want you can also find several fashionable shoes with flat-heels and you can decide from them. In case you are not very used to high heels and want to wear them on your wedding day it is a good idea to practice walking in them a few times beforehand. In the end the most important aspect is that the wedding shoe must be comfortable as a small pinch can convert into a large pain almost immediately during a wedding. It is also true that if you don’t fit into your wedding shoes well, it can even result in broken ankles. I am sure you don’t want this on your special day so it is best if the wedding shoes you choose must be comfortable over style if it comes to that.
